Hey Hikers!
So after a few weeks of establishing a good base of what hiking is, I’ve gone and completed my first trail! The beautiful Gowlland Tod Park on the traditional W̱SÁNEĆ territory.
For the first trail, I decided to keep it rather easy. This trail was mostly flat, and good quality trail conditions throughout. Also, a rather short trail being only about an hour and a half to do a loop, including the time spent stopping for photos and enjoying the nature. For this trail I brought along hiking shoes, a hat, a raincoat, and some water for when I was finished. My roommate Hannah had also done this trail before, and joined me on the hike.
The is trail located within a beautiful, lush green forest with a huge variety of plants to look at. The trees are all covered with a mesmerizing green moss, from top to bottom. Running alongside the trail is a stream leading all the way to the Saanich Inlet, connected to the ocean, at the bottom of the trail. It was truly breathtaking to see such lush and vibrant nature in the month of February.
For beginner hikers, I would highly recommend this trail and if you have a furry friend, they’ll love it too. It’s a great trail to connect yourself to the outdoors, and to enjoy some beautiful sights while not over-straining your body with intense conditions. I hope you all enjoyed this weeks blog, and I’ll see you next time!
