Upper Thetis Lake Trail

What’s up Hikers, for this weeks inquiry post I went on a trail run through the beautiful Upper Thetis Lake Trail. This trail was 4.73km and took me 34 minutes to complete. Thetis Lake is a gorgeous body of water located just outside of Langford, and is a quick drive away from Victoria and Saanich area. The trail involves quite a bit of hills with a constant change of elevation. I ran the trail this week as I didn’t have much time to complete the hour long hike, but it’s a fantastic trail to walk with some family, a significant other or a furry friend. Again for this week I recorded my run and review on AllTrails, so you’re more than welcome to take a look at that.

A photo I took from Thetis Lake. I stood on top of one of the cliffs and snapped a photo of the water, with the trees in the distance reflecting off of the lakes surface.

The body of water is surrounded by cliffs of varying heights, and this serves the lake as a great spot for adrenaline junkies looking to complete some cliff dives. I went last year in October to go cliff diving, and while the water was starting to get cold around that time, it was still quite refreshing. I forgot a swimsuit this time around so I didn’t jump in after my run, but I would recommend bringing a swimsuit alongside your hiking attire as the lake is great for water activities. In the warmer seasons you can catch people kayaking, paddle boarding and splashing around in the beautiful Thetis Lake.

Overall, Thetis Lake was a moderately challenging trail but nothing too difficult. It’s best to try this hike out after a few days of sun as the trail can be a bit muddy in the low parts. The trail is also quite popular so expect to see quite a lot of people out and about while you complete your hike. Upper Thetis Trail is a fantastic walk as it takes you around all the surrounding bodies of water, but if you’re looking to cut it short there are some other routes you can take. Signage is available along all sections of the trail to guide you in the right direction and recommend some other trails you may want to attempt. I hope you get the chance to check out Thetis Lake, and happy trails everyone!
