Week 3 Reflection: H5P and Other Software

In this weeks class, we discussed and learned how to use video and audio editing software. For my upcoming practicum, I’m hoping to teach middle school and I believe this technology is a great resource for students in that age bracket. It’s a great tool that can highlight creative and critical thinking within students. It also enhances students technical skills. Another great outcome of teaching students video and audio editing is it can lead to group projects, which works on both collaboration and teamwork skills for students. All this can lead and prepare students for careers in both media and technology which seems to be the direction jobs are currently headed in.

Another great tool we learned this week was H5P. H5P allows us to insert quizzes into our videos and makes the content interactive for both the teacher and the students. I found H5P to be super interesting because it’s something I haven’t seen a lot of previously, and it’s a great way for the teacher to gauge learning. It allows students to engage in an interactive learning experience that may be new to them. I’d love to try H5P with the middle school students I’ll be teaching as a tool to assess their learning on the fly. I’ve seen tools like Kahoot be used in the past and the students always seem to be engaged during it, so I’d like to see if H5P receives the same praise.

Below I have an example of H5P and its ability to teach students about websites. Here’s a short video on how to briefly use the website AllTrails.

    1) Great interactive video! Very informative!

    2) The points you have made throughout your post are accurate and well written. The examples provided are very useful as well.

    3) Excellent job! One thing I would recommend is perhaps adding a little more information to your blog post.
